Towns, Reputation & the Mayor

Every town keeps a collector who will take what you have gathered and remember that you gave it. Your standing with a town earns titles and opens its own goods; the town's own standing — everything every player has ever given it — decides how the place looks, down to the armour its guards wear.

The short version

Where
The Town Collector, standing in every town square
What they take
Anything gathered or refined — ore, ingots, wood, planks, fish, leather, reagents
What you get
Standing with that town, which never decays and is never spent
Per donation
Up to 1,000 of one thing at a time
Swearing an oath
250 standing with that town, and 7 days between oaths
⚖️
Standing is a KEY, never a coin. Nothing ever spends it and nothing ever takes it away — not swearing to another town, not losing the Mayor's seat. It only goes up, which is what lets titles hang off it: a title you have earned can never be taken back by something you do later.

Your standing with a town

Each rung is a title you may wear — "Patron of Britain" and so on. Only your highest rung per town is offered, and it follows you up as you climb.

What a town looks like, and what it cost everyone

This ladder is the WHOLE SHARD's, not yours: every point anyone has ever given a town counts toward it, and everyone sees the same town. The armour its guards wear is the quickest way to read where a town stands.

What a town sells its own

Every town keeps the same two kinds of goods, and no two towns keep the same ones: the material differs by what the place is, and the colour is that town's alone. Paid for in gold — your standing only decides whether they will sell to you.

🏛️
The MAYOR of a town is whichever sworn citizen has given it the most. The office carries a title and a plaque at the courtyard gate with your name on it, for everyone who walks in to read. It can be taken from you the moment somebody gives more — and swearing to another town gives it up.

What a town will take, and what it is worth

One point is one point wherever you give it — a town does not care which of its neighbours you have been working for. Refined goods are worth three times their raw tier, because refining spent a second skill and more raw material to make.
